Rachel Cook’s advice for high school success is simple, but it may not be easy to follow.

“From the very beginning, always focus on your school and don’t get too distracted with outside things,” she said. “Ultimately, your school work is what’s going to affect your future.”

Cook, daughter of John and Pam Cook, used that philosophy and her faith in God to become a Kentucky Governor’s Scholar, a Rogers Scholar, yearbook co-editor and 2011 Lincoln County Junior Miss first runner-up.

She also joined the LCHS archery team as a senior to support a friend already on the team.

“I’m not very good at it,” she admitted. “But I do enjoy it.”

When not on the range, Cook fulfills her roles as Senior Class secretary, Student Council member, Pleasant View Baptist Church nursery volunteer and youth praise band member.

She said her Christian faith largely influenced her decision to attend the University of Cumberlands, which is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Church. There, she will major in business administration or accounting.

In college, like high school, Cook will set her bull’s eye on academics and Christian living.

“With everything that I do, I try to exemplify Christ-like characteristics,” she said.
