Faithe Goff sums up her passion for agronomy, or soil science, with simple sincerity.
“I love dirt,” she said, laughing. “But I’m close to the earth, and I want to help the earth.”
Goff, president of Burgin High School’s Future Farmers of America chapter, also wants to improve the lives of others through her work with the environment, and she’s already well on her way. She’s completed more than 600 community service hours with FFA, 4-H, Kentucky Changers and the Mercer County Extension Office, among other organizations.
This fall, Goff will bring her big heart and green thumb to Eastern Kentucky University, where she plans to major in agronomy and natural resources and minor in biology.
She brings with her a resume that includes a 4.08 grade-point average, runner-up award for FFA vegetable production proficiency, and a life of experience working on her family’s farm.
Ultimately, Goff aspires to be an extension agent or Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officer.
