The George Rogers Clark baseball team opened the Tanner Dodge Classic in impressive fashion with an 11-0 shutout over Estill County in six innings Wednesday in Stanton.
The Cardinals got a solid outing from ace Anthony Withrow and scored three runs in the top of the sixth to put the game away.
Withrow, a senior, scattered three hits, struck out nine batters and walked just one. Nick Hyslop relieved Withrow in the sixth and struck out the side.
T.K. Korb and Tyler Cain sparked Clark’s offense with three hits each, with Korb connecting on a pair of doubles. Korb drove in three runs.
Zach Pasley, Logan McQuerry and Jake Robin each had two hits. Robin had a double and drove in a pair of runs.
Clark coach Larry Allison is glad his team is settling into a routine with 10 days remaining in the regular season and also plans to take advantage of an off-day this afternoon.
“We need practice on the field, and that’s hurting us as much as anything,” he said.
Clark will resume play in the tournament at 8 p.m. Friday night against Knott County Central in Stanton. The three-day tournament concludes Saturday.
— The Cardinals have canceled Monday’s game at Campbell County and will take on Bourbon County at 5:30 p.m. at Cardinal Field.
