Ruby Simpson Hardin, 96, widow and loving wife of 73 years to Vernon “Pete” Hardin, died May 24, 2011.  She was a member of the Church of Christ, the Kentucky and National Retired Teachers Association, and was a certified dental assistant for several years. Mrs. Hardin retired from teaching in 1974 with most of her career spent at Nicholasville Elementary. She and her husband retired to Florida. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Sarah Shannon Elerd Simpson. Survivors include a daughter Shannon Jennings and her husband Norman of Harrodsburg, with whom she resided for the last three years; grandsons, Larry Vernon and wife Julie Mitchell and Harry Joe and wife Sherry Mitchell; two step grandsons, Jeff Jennings and Jonathan and wife Lisa Jennings; three great-grandchildren, Mark, Danny and Athena Mitchell, a great-great-grandchild, Alyssa; and several nieces and nephews. Services were 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Leach officiating. Visitation was from noon to 2:30 p.m. www.BettsandWestfuneralhome.com.
