Teachers from six states gathered at Jessamine Career and Technology Center last week for a three-day workshop to equip them to use technology effectively in math classrooms.
The Texas Instruments workshop, called “TI-Nspire in High School Mathematics,” was hosted by JCTC science teacher Peggy Welch and taught by Texas Instruments math instructor Dan Ilaria at the school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Welch said she hosted the workshop because of her desire to stay on the “cutting edge” of technology for her classes as well the chance to provide other teachers with the same opportunity.
“I heard about the opportunity to host, and I thought it would be a great thing to have in the district,” Welch said.
The activities were aligned with the new Common Core State Standards in English and math, which Kentucky was the first state to adopt in February 2010 and which will be implemented in schools this fall.
