One still hospitalized following Lincoln wreck

July 02, 2011

One of five people injured in crash on McCormack’s Church Road early Friday morning remained hospitalized and he likely will face charges when he is released, Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger said.

Jordan Phelps, 23, of Moreland was listed in “fair’ condition Saturday afternoon at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where he was airlifted following Friday’s crash.

Three other people taken by helicopters from the scene — Tatiana McCourt, 20, Skyler Board, 2, and Cheyenne Board, 5, all of Stanford — were no longer patients at the medical center on Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The three were passengers in a truck driven by Eric Board of Stanford, who was transported by ambulance to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Folger said a preliminary investigation into the crash, which occurred shortly after midnight about four miles from Stanford, indicate that Phelps’ vehicle crossed over the centerline and struck Board’s truck.

“Though the investigation is not fully completed yet, it looks like Mr. Phelps’ vehicle is going to be at fault,” the sheriff said.

Folger also said that it appears alcohol use was a factor in the crash. Phelps was found in a ditch near the site of accident and apparently tried to leave but did not get very far, police said.
