Nicholasville man pleads guilty to criminal abuse charges

A Nicholasville man facing multiple counts of sex-crime charges pleaded guilty June 27 to a lesser charge.

William “Bill” A. Fannin, 56, entered an Alford plea to second-degree criminal abuse and faces one year in prison, according to court documents.

In an Alford plea, a person does not admit guilt but agrees there was enough evidence to be found guilty.
When he was indicted by a Jessamine County grand jury in January 2010, Fannin faced three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree sodomy. The indictment alleges that the crimes took place between Dec. 1, 2008, and June 2009.

The rape and sodomy charges were dropped because the victim recanted her story, according to court documents.

According to documents, two of the sexual-abuse charges “are being resolved to the wishes of the victim,” while the remaining charge was amended down to the criminal-abuse charge.

The plea agreement shows that Fannin was the caregiver to a 12-year-old girl, and he “wantonly abused her and thereby subjected her to torture or cruel punishment.”

Fannin’s formal sentencing is scheduled for July 29 at 9 a.m. in Jessamine Circuit Court before Judge Hunter Daugherty.
