Motorcyclist severely injured in Iron Works Road accident

  • Medical personnel with Winchester Fire-EMS and the Clark County Fire Department treated Joseph W. Stacey, 31, of Clay City for injuries sustained after his motorcycle collided with a trailer being pulled by an SUV driven by Michael T. Caudill of 2534 Irvine Road about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The wreck happened on Iron Works Road at the intersection with Schollsville Road. Stacey was airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center by Air Methods of Mount Sterling with injuries to his leg and head.

A motorcycle rider was airlifted to a Lexington hospital after an accident on Iron Works Road about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Joseph W. Stacey, 31, of Clay City, suffered severe injuries to his leg and head when he slid underneath a trailer pulled by a Toyota 4-Runner that was turning onto Schollsville Road near the Pilot View Mini Mart, Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said.
According to sheriff’s reports, Michael T. Caudill of Irvine Road was traveling west on Iron Works Road and did not see Stacey’s approaching when he attempted to turn left onto Schollsville Road and into the path of the motorcycle which was traveling east.
After the collision, Caudill’s vehicle continued to move forward several feet, causing the trailer to run over Stacey, according to the report.
Stacey was not wearing a helmet according to police.
Stacey was treated by firefighters at the scene for a partial amputation of his leg and head injuries, then airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center by Air Methods of Mount Sterling.
Stacey was listed in fair condition today, according to UK  Hospital officials.
