CAMP DICK — The Camp Dick Fire Department called in Kentucky State Police to investigate a fire in Garrard County early this morning.
Firefighters extinguished a 3 a.m. blaze that destroyed the garage of a house on Mount Hebron Road. But, upon searching the site, they found no likely cause of the fire, Chief Tevis Graham said.
Officials have not yet been able to contact the owner of the property.
Graham said the owner has been in Florida for about six months, and the house was vacant with the electricity turned off.
"We didn’t find nothing in the garage that (started it)," Graham said. "We didn't smell anything like fuels."
Dispatchers said a passerby called in the fire.
The blaze ruined the garage and everything in it, including tools. But, other than smokiness, the house sustained no interior damage.
Firefighters, who also came from the Lancaster Fire Department, Buckeye Fire Department and Garrard County Fire District 1, left the scene about 6 a.m., and KSP investigators were on their way this morning, Graham said.
