George Rogers Clark High School student Sarah Sams was presented with a $4,000 scholarship to Georgetown College during the Kentucky Council on Youth Leadership Youth Salute ceremonies in May.
Sams joined fellow GRC student Taylor Davidison as a scholarship winner. The two were among the 58 GRC and Clark Christian Academy students honored by Youth Salute.
Sams is an active member in her school, church and community.
She is the executive editor of Smoke Signals, the school newspaper, and president of Embracing Global Obligations, a community service club.
Other organizations she is involved with include Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, First Priority, Academic Team, Student Advisory, Technology Student Association and school musicals.
She also received the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award.
She is a member of the Calvary Christian Church youth group and participates in the drama group.
Aside from her many involvements, she volunteers at various places, such as UK Medical Center and the Clark County Community Service Center, and tutors at a local elementary school.
At this time, she plans on attending Georgetown University and majoring in international studies. She hopes to become a foreign affairs officers.
