Fitch bowling in USBC junior championships

East Jessamine graduate Matt Fitch is competeing in the week-long United State Bowling Congress (USBC) Junior Gold Championships this week in Las Vegas.

Fitch, currently a student at Morehead State University, competed in the championships last year as well, placing in the top 162.

He was also part of the Morehead State bowling team that went to USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in March. The Eagles placed 15th.

West Jessamine girls’ soccer tryouts

Tryouts for the West Jessamine High School girls’ soccer team will take place July 15 at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the West High soccer field, located behind West Jessamine Middle School.

Players need to bring a ball, shin guards, water and a physical form. Forms can be picked up at the high school office.

East Jessamine boys’ soccer tryouts

Tryouts for the East Jessamine boys’ soccer team will be Monday, July 18, from 8-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the East Jessamine soccer field directly behind the JCTC building.

Check-in is at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Tryouts will continue Tuesday, July 19, from 8 to 10 a.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m.

Players need to bring a ball, shin guards, water and a sports physical form. Forms are available at the high school office and Dr. Terry Thoroughman's office on South Main street in Nicholasville.

East Jessamine girls’ soccer tryouts

Tryouts and practice for grades 9-12 will begin Monday, July 18, at the Soccer Complex behind The Early Learning Village. Practice will be 7:30-9 a.m., and from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.  

Players need to bring running shoes, soccer cleats, shin guards, a ball, and water.  Completed physicals are required and the KHSAA physical form is available at the high school.  

All seventh- and eighth-graders will begin Monday, Aug. 1, at the same times.

East Jessamine boys’ golf tryouts

The East Jessamine boys golf team will have tryouts on July 18 at 6 p.m. at High Point Golf Course.
All golfers must have an up-to-date physical.

West Jessamine volleyball tryouts

The West Jessamine High School volleyball team will have tryouts on Monday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Athletes must have a current sports physical form.

East Jessamine volleyball tryouts

Tryouts for the East Jessamine volleyball team will be July 15, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the high school gym.
All players must have a current KHSAA sports physical and come dressed ready to play. Only after completing the physical fitness test will players be judged on serving, passing, hitting and team play.

West announces coaching changes

Stephen Greene has been named the new head coach of the Lady Colts basketball team. He is also a teacher at West.

Adam Young has been named boys’ golf coach.

Asbury University baseball camp

The second session of the Asbury University baseball camp will run July 18-21 from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

The camp is open to 8- to 15-year-olds. The cost is $75.

Open JYSA board positions

Jessamine Youth Soccer Association Board is looking for individuals who are passionate about kids playing soccer to fill open spots on the JYSA Board.

If you feel that you meet that criteria, please see the following list of open positions:
U6 age group coordinator, U8 age group coordinator, U10 age group coordinator, select committee members, volunteer and concessions coordinators.

The following executive offices are also open: secretary and vice president.

If you are interested in serving the kids and community in this capacity please email president@jysa.org.
JYSA is a volunteer organization and thrives on parental involvement.

The Journal College Report

The Jessamine Journal would like to start reporting more on the progress of former East and West Jessamine athletes. Due to the many signings over the past several years, The Journal has an incomplete list of area alumni currently playing college sports.

From time to time, The Journal will publish a “College Report” givings stats and updates on athletes from the area.
