Evelyn M. Samuels, 83, of 225 N. Broadway, died Friday morning at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
She was a Winchester native, born to the late Thomas and Ethel McBaine Samuels. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where she was founder of the church library and vacation Bible school coordinator.
She spent her life as an educator and teacher, retiring after 41 years. She was presented the key to the city and was an honorable Kentucky Colonel.
She is survived by cousins John, Jesse and Alice Samuels of Winchester, and Glorina and the Rev. B.T. Bishop of Elizabethtown; and many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 37 N. Highland St.
Visitation at 5 p.m. until time of service.
Burial Friday at 11 a.m. at Clarmont Memorial Gardens.
Chenault Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
