Jean Moss Nicholson, 80, wife of 55 years of Dr. O.P. Nicholson Jr., passed away Saturday, July 23, after a short illness. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for most of her career at Nicholasville Elementary School after obtaining her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College and master’s of education degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Jean was a devoted Christian and member of Anchor Baptist Church in Lexington, where she taught the Vota Vita Sunday School class. She is also survived by her daughter and close friend, Nancy Case and her son-in-law Allen Case, of Lexington; her son, Roger Nicholson of Charleston, W.Va.; her two grandchildren, Kathleen Nicholson and Ryan Nicholson; her brother, William Moss, and sister-in-law, Pat Moss, of Lexington; and sister-in-law, Irene Moss of Nicholasville. She joined in death her parents, Roscoe and Pauline Moss; her beloved sister and best friend, Ann Moss; and her brother, Ray Moss. Visitation was held from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Betts & West Funeral Home in Nicholasville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Anchor Baptist Church in Lexington, with the Rev. Paul Sisk officiating. Burial followed at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Nicholasville. Randy Barrett, Randy Berry, Larry Fite, Charlie Floyd, Bill Gatliff and Wayne Hayden served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included the members of the Vota Vita Sunday School class of Anchor Baptist Church and her close friends, Bobbye and Jerry Garrett, Kay Floyd, Sandy Fite, Fern Van Hook, Michelle Hayden, Debra Berry, Tracy Gatliff, Kim Leet, Nela Marshall, Grace Woods, Lorraine Hall, Martha Katzman and Sue Royce.
