Children’s consignment sale

There will be a consignment sale at 150 Maryland Ave. from 6 to 8 p.m. to benefit the children’s programming at the Clark County Association for Handicapped Citizens. The sale is open to the public.

JULY 30


Clark County Fair begins

The Clark County Fair begins today at 11 a.m. with a parade along Main Street. Events will continue at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds with the open beef show. The Miss Clark County Fair pageant will begin at 8 p.m. and the Fair Person of the Year will be announced at 8:15 p.m.
There will be no carnival rides until Tuesday, Aug. 2.

AUG. 3
‘Rear Window’

The Clark County Public Library, 370 S. Burns Ave., will continue the free movie series, Kentucky Picture Show. This month, the first screening will be Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window.” The movie begins at 6:30 p.m. and popcorn and soda will be provided. Pre-registration is required. AUG. 5
Distinguished Young Women

Previously known as the Junior Miss Program, the new Distinguished Young Women Program will be at 7 p.m. at George Rogers Clark High School.
The program will still emphasize scholastics, and the new name is designed to better reflect the goals of the organization. Twenty GRC seniors will compete for the title and the chance to represent Clark County at the state competition.
Each contestant will be judged on personal interview, self-expression, fitness and their school transcripts and test scores. Tickets will be on sale Monday-Wednesday in the GRC¿lobby from 7 to 8 p.m.

County Public Library’s Local History Week

For the ninth year, the Clark County Public Library will host Local History Week. Dinner is provided each night at 6:15 for $6. Programs start at 8 p.m. A ticket must be purchased for each night’s program and tickets will be available Monday, Aug. 8. Programs include a portrayal of Dr. Ephraim McDowell on Aug. 29, a discussion of Kentucky horses in the Civil War with Maryjean Walls on Aug. 30, a portrayal of Orphan Brigade survivor Johnny Green on Aug. 31 and a portrayl of John Jacob Niles on Sept. 1. SEPT. 23-24

John Michael Montgomery’s  Country-Fest at Lykins Park

The two-day concert event at Lykins Park will feature Montgomery Gentry, Jake Owen, John Michael Montgomery, Colt Ford and Exile. Tickets are $20 for one day or $30 for both days. Children 10 and under receive free admission.
There will be food, fireworks, arts and crafts and games.
Campsites and RV parking are available.
