RICHMOND — Moss Gibson Long, 91, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 1, 2011, at Richmond Health & Rehab Complex, Kenwood. He was the widower of Imogene Shell Long.
Born Nov.12, 1919, he was the son of the late James M. "Bud" and Hattie Jane Long. He served in the United States Navy as Seaman First Class in the amphibious forces during World War II. Moss was a retired research technician in the agronomy department at the University of Kentucky and a member of the Newby Baptist Church.
In addition his wife and parents, Moss was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Gibson "Tom" Long; three daughters, Carolyn Whitley, Jane E. Myers and an infant daughter; a brother, Q.C. Long; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Long.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Harry Lee Estes Jr., Billie Carol Estes, Betty Ruth Estes Dussor (John), Charles G. Estes and Kimberly Renee' Whitley-Yeatts; 11 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; his special friend and companion of 15 years, Wanda Faye Click; and several nieces and nephews.
