County calendar for Aug. 4

THURSDAY

— Middle School 101 for incoming East Jessamine Middle School sixth-graders will be held Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. Students will meet their teachers and have team activities. They will also be instructed on opening their lockers and have a tour of the building. Lunch is provided; however, parents will need to provide transportation. Parent 101 will be held that evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Parents will learn about the curriculum and instruction, safety and discipline, and the social and emotional needs of their middle-school students.

FRIDAY

— The Overstreet-Prentice-Baker and White family will host its three-day reunion Aug. 5-7. On Friday, Aug. 5, there will be a meet-and-greet at 6 p.m. at the Ramada Conference Center in Lexington. A dinner will follow at 7 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a family picnic at noon at Macedonia Baptist Church in Keene. On Sunday at 11 a.m., there will be a homecoming and basket meeting at Cedar Top Baptist Church in Wilmore hosted by the Rev. Anthony Givens. Banquet tickets are $20 per adult. — The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host a film documentary, “The Code Talkers,” at 1:15 p.m.

SATURDAY

— The Jessamine County Farmers Market will open in the Wilmore City Hall parking lot Saturday at 8 a.m.

— A free meal is provided by Manna Ministries each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is a restaurant-quality meal served at 303 W. Maple St. in the community center of Nicholasville United Methodist Church. The meal is open to the public for anyone in need. Takeout meals are available after 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact the office at 885-4481.

— Stonebridge Summer Saturday Night Concert Series will feature PreFabReHab on Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. on the Downtown Green in Wilmore. A local food vendor will be on site to sell refreshments, and the Boy Scouts will be selling popcorn. Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable item to benefit the Wilmore-High Bridge Community Service Center or the county animal shelter.

— The Nicholasville Fire Department will host a fish fry at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 at 1540 Jessamine Station Road. The proceeds will go toward the restoration of a 1950s fire truck. The cost is $20. For more information, call 983-3750.

— A reunion of the East and West Jessamine classes of 2001 is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 6, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Barrel House, located at 903 Manchester St. Suite 150, in Lexington. SUNDAY

— Sunday Funday at the Jessamine County Public Library will feature Duct Tape Lunch Bags at 2 p.m.

MONDAY

— The Jessamine County Senior Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and welcomes people 60 years of age and older. The center has a fully equipped exercise room and a thrift shop. The seniors meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Activities are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bus service and a hot lunch are available on a donation basis. For more information, call 885-9102.

— The Jessamine County Senior Center, 111 Hoover Drive, plays bingo from noon to 1 p.m. Monday and Friday afternoons. Call 885-9102 for more information.

— The Jessamine County Public Library will host a summer storytime at 10:30 a.m. for families with children ages 5 and under.

— The Council Petition Committee meets daily from 1-5 p.m. in front of the Dollar Tree on South Main Street through Aug. 8. For more information, call 859-221-2008.

— The Wilmore Senior Community Center will host Treasured Memories Scrapbooking each Monday in August at 6 p.m.

TUESDAY

— The Jessamine County Ministerial Association will meet Aug. 9 at noon at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, located at 224 Edgewood Drive, Nicholasville. Carolyn Cobb with the Salvation Army will speak about that organization’s ministry opportunties. Jessamine County pastors, ministers and chaplains are invited to attend. Lunch will be provided.
