Organizers are hoping for a good parade turnout. The application deadline for parade participants is Sept. 2, and parade organizer Ronda May said there are no entry fees for school groups.
“We’re hoping for as many as possible, doing anything and everything they might want to do,” May said.
New to the festival is the Miss Jamboree Pageant, which will be held Thursday night in the city parking lot at the corner of Walnut and Main streets. Coleman said entry forms for the peagent are online at www.nicholasvillenow.org.
Coleman said the talent show is a popular draw.
“We will be holding our second annual Nicholasville’s Got Talent Show on Friday at the parking lot at Walnut and Main streets,” Coleman said.
Other events during the jamboree include the man-versus-pizza pizza-eating contest on Saturday from 3-5 p.m., sponsored by Papa Murphy’s Pizza. Coleman said the object is to see how much pizza a person can eat in a given amount of time.
“We’re also having a homemakers bake-off, and that will be out at the ag center on Friday,” Coleman said.
In addition to the many attractions, Coleman said a variety of entertainment, including music, magic shows, and food vendors and arts and craft vendors, will be present throughout the weekend.
“We want to encourage everybody to come out and have a good time,” Coleman said. “It’s family oriented; we’ll be having magic shows, the talent show, the eating contest, the parade, and music with the Moron Brothers headlining Saturday night.”
Road closures
Coleman asked the Nicholasville City Commission to close some roads during the event.
Those roads include a portion of 1st Street behind the Jessamine County courthouse that runs between Maple and Walnut streets starting at 5 p.m. Sept. 8. Walnut Street will also be closed from the intersection of 1st Street to the drive-through at United Bank, located at 201 N. Main St.
Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, Main Street will be shut down from Orchard Drive to the Kroger entrance on South Main Street for the duration of the parade.
