Freshman Matt Raskin scored three times Tuesday to lead Mercer County to a 3-1 win at Western Hills to remain unbeaten.
It was scoreless until Raskin scored in the 20th minute off a pass from Landon Souder. Four minutes later, Western Hills scored off of a throw-in to make it a 1-1 score at the half.
"We asked the guys to pick up the pressure and use our possession skills more in the second half," Mercer coach Tim Shannon said. "And they did.”
Eleven minutes into the second half, Tate Spivey sent a low pass through the Wolverine defense that Raskin put in for a 2-1 lead.
Spivey received his second yellow card a minute later and had to leave the game, and left the Titans a man down the rest of the match.
But Raskin capped off his big night with 27 seconds to go, when he beat the Western Hills defender and stepped around the keeper for a goal.
"These guys keep amazing me, we were out manned, in bad weather and still out played a very good and aggressive Wolverine team." Shannon said.
Mercer (5-0-2) outshot the Wolverines 9-3 and play at Bourbon County on Thursday.
