The East boys' soccer team got a big boost of confidence over the weekend, winning two games to make the finals of the Colonel Classic at Bourbon County High School.

In its first game on Saturday, East broke an eight-match losing streak by beating Holy Cross (Covington) 3-0. Jackson Green scored two goals, and David Prewitt scored once.

The Jags were back on the pitch later in the day against Anderson County. Matt Hall gave East a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Anderson was able to tie the game 1-1 in the second half to force overtime.

Following a scoreless overtime, and a 4-4 draw in penalty kicks, the game went to sudden-death penalty kicks. Josiah Clements’ shot gave East an edge, and Anderson missed its ensuing shot to give the Jags the victory and send them to the finals Sunday against reigning state champion Henry Clay.

The Blue Devils entered the classic with only two losses on its resumé this season and would leave Bourbon County with only two losses, after defeating East Jessamine 6-1. Sam Miller had East’s lone goal.

On Monday at the South Oldham Tournament, East lost to Louisville Trinity 5-0 for its 10th loss of the season. The Jaguars are now 3-10-1.
