Burnside's big week helps East to two wins

East Jessamine junior Devon Burnside scored five goals in two games last week to help improve the Lady Jags' record to 9-3-0.

Coming off a 3-1 loss to Mercy last Wednesday at the Little Caesars Classic in Boyle County, Burnside scored three goals in a 5-2 romp of Bethlehem on Saturday; she also had an assist.

Victoria Slade and Ashley Taylor scored as well, and Slade and Danielle Lee each had an assist.

Monday night in the rain against Model, Burnside scored twice to help East to a 4-1 win over the Patriots. Lee and Taylor each had a goal as well.

Burnside has eight goals on the season and leads the team in assists with 12 in 12 games.

Lee leads East with 15 goals. She had four goals all of last season.

East has an important district stretch coming up. The Lady Jags have not won a district game since 2008.

On Wednesday, East faced Lafayette; results were not available at press time.

The Lady Jags will play Lexington Christian and Lexington Catholic on Saturday and Monday, respectively.

On Tuesday, East will travel to Danville at 6 p.m.
