Obituary: Opal Garrison

Opal Garrison, 92, of Perryville, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, in Danville. She was the widow of Julian “Pete” Garrison.
Born July 20, 1919 in Bourbon County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Minnie Plummer Dennis.
Opal was a retired salesperson for The Hub Frankel, retiring in 1995. She also had previously worked for Palm Beach Co. and was former owner of Garrison gifts in Harrodsburg. She was a longtime member of Perryville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. Opal loved cooking and entertaining.
Survivors include her two children and their spouses, Laddie and Doris Garrison, and Judith and Jim Cress, all of Perryville; a sister, Sue Skeen of Springfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Chandra Craig, Camille LaPorte, Candace Code, Chris Galbreath, Amy Garrison, Misty Watts and Monte Cress; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Sue Garrison of Perryville.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ted Garrison, and nine brothers and a sister.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Wilder Funeral Home by the Revs. Bob Morrison and Doug Davis, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Roy Yeast, Sonny Smith, Melvin Bottom, Dickie Best, Tony Perkins and Monte Cress. Honorary pallbearers will be Opal’s nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested to The Gideon’s International, Alzheimer’s Association, and the building fund of Perryville Baptist Church.
