New animal control officer hired for animal shelter
The Jessamine County Fiscal Court approved the hiring of a new animal control officer at its meeting Tuesday. The court unanimously approved the hiring of William Taylor Bourne at a rate of $11 per hour based on a recommendation from animal-control director Sherman Jett. Bourne will replace Earl Hatter, who moved over to work at the Nicholasville Police Depart-ment, magistrate George Dean said.
Arts association hosting auditions for ‘A Christmas Carol’
The Bluegrass Arts Association is hosting open auditions for Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” musical, scheduled to go on stage Dec. 9-11 and Dec. 16-18 in McKenna Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore. Male and female actors and singers of all ages are needed as well as musicians for the orchestra.
Auditions for actors and singers will take place at the Jessamine County Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 13, from 7-9 p.m. The library is located at 600 S. Main St. in Nicholasville. Those auditioning should prepare a monologue and 16 bars of any Christmas carol; accompaniment will be provided.
Auditions for musicians will take place at 341 Virginia Lane in Nicholasville on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. Instruments needed for the orchestra are piano or keyboard, flute, clarinet, soprano and tenor saxophone, horn in F, trumpet or flugelhorn, violin, cello, double bass, and drums or percussion. Musicians will be asked to play a short prepared piece and sight-read a short piece, and each should bring a brief resumé of experience and training. Call 859-881-8247 to schedule a time.
