Josh Settle had a hat trick Friday to lead the Centre College men’s soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Austin 4-0 at Sherman, Texas.
Settle, a junior who had only two goals all season before Friday’s game, scored four minute in off an assist from Austin Hall to give Centre (7-3-1, 2-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) a quick lead.
He scored again in the 28th minute off an assist from Cameron Miller, then capped the scoring off a Jeremy Carlson header early in the second half.
Ben Van Nevel also scored for Centre off a header by Austin Greer, giving the Colonels a 3-0 halftime lead.
Austin (4-5-2, 1-2) outshot Centre 18-15, including 11-4 in the second half as the Kangaroos tried to come from behind. Centre goalkeeper Chris Jackson had eight saves.
It was the Colonels’ third straight 4-0 win, and their third win by that score in their last four games.
The game was the fifth in a series in which the two teams have raised money for the Susan G.¿Komen for the Cure Foundation. Austin won this year’s fundraising competition, and to date the two teams have raised a combined $32,000 to help fight breast cancer.
