Three men from central Kentucky have been arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault following a month-long investigation by the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Department.

Keith T. Gaines, 24, of Nicholasville; Emilio Hernandez, 18, of Georgetown; and Steven Lee Gregory, 21, of Lexington allegedly attacked a 21-year-old male on Glass Mill Road, near Figg Lane in the Wilmore area on Sept. 18, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The incident occurred when the three men approached the victim in their car as he was walking along the road, Chief Deputy Allen Peel said. The victim knew Gaines and got in the car, but as he was getting out of the car a short time later, the men allegedly attacked the victim, robbing him of an undisclosed amount of cash and assaulting him with knives. The victim was left on the side of the road with no clothes on and dispatch received a call from an unknown female who stopped along the road to help him, Peel said.

The victim was “injured pretty extensively” with cuts, scrapes and lacerations across his body, Peel said. He was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center for treatment, he added.

Peel said the investigation took about a month because the sheriff’s department had to track down Gaines and identify Hernandez and Gregory, who were unknown to the victim.

Gaines was arrested Oct. 10 and is on his way to the grand jury. He was moved to the Casey County Detention Center due to lack of space in Jessamine County, Peel said.

Gregory was arrested Oct. 13 and Hernandez was arrested Wednesday afternoon. Gregory has a preliminary hearing in Jessamine County District Court Monday morning.
