Central (8-3) scored four times in the second quarter and went on to defeat Casey County 44-20 in a Class AAA first-round playoff game Friday at Louisville.
The Rebels (4-7) battled the defending champion Yellowjackets (8-3) to a scoreless draw in the first quarter, then fell behind 21-0 in the second quarter before Will Hatter's 49-yard touchdown pass to Cody Denson got them on the board. Cornelius Bolden answered with his second touchdown of the second quarter to give Central a 28-6 halftime lead.
Alex Bolin scored both of Casey's second-half touchdowns on a 6-yard run in the third quarter and a 74-yard run in the fourth.
Casey outgunned Central 294 yards to 255, rushing for 192 yards and passing for 102. Each team had one turnover.
Central’s Anthony Wales, who ranks fifth in state history career rushing yardage with 7,636 yards, played only sparingly.
