Veterans Day lunch set at Danville armory

Heritage Hospice Inc. will host its fourth annual Veterans Day luncheon Friday at the National Guard Armory in Danville. All veterans and their guests in Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln and Mercer counties are invited to the free fish dinner. Many door prizes will be given to the veterans. Usually, about 1,200 people attend the event.


Remember all 11s as the event begins at 11 a.m. on 11-11-11. The fish dinner continues until 2 p.m. Parking is at Danville Admiral Stadium, but handicap parking is provided.


The old Palm Beach parking lot, which is fenced in now, will be available for parking for World War ll veterans and those who need handicap parking.


Golf cart shuttles and bus shuttles will be available from both lots to and from the armory. Access to the armory parking area will be limited to bus dropoffs and veterans who need wheelchair access. Signs will be posted for the designated parking areas. Kentucky National Guardsman will assist with parking.

The Veterans Affairs Mobile Vet Center will be at this year’s event. The mobile unit helps veterans in rural areas have access to services such as counseling for post-traumatic stress disorder, military sexual trauma, bereavement counseling, marriage and family counseling, and resources like VA benefits information and suicide prevention referrals.
