About 40 students and 20 instructors from Central Kentucky fire departments gathered in Wilmore to participate in burn training at the beginning of the month.

The firefighters worked in a house at 304 Linden St., which was donated to the Wilmore Fire Department from Asbury University Wilmore Fire Chief Jimmy Powers said.

The crews spent nearly an entire day setting different types of fires, observing the behavior of the different fires, running hoses and practicing “attacking the fire,” Capt. Jeremy Wheatley said.

The crews ended up practicing on 48 different “burns” in the house, which was a great learning opportunity for several different fire departments, Wheatley said.

Firefighters from Lexington, Jessamine County, Lancaster, Nicholasville, Wilmore, Anderson County, Olive Hill, Boyle County, Lincoln County, and the Stamping Ground area participated, among others.
