Fed up with shopping in Danville

November 17, 2011

I tried grocery shopping in the Danville Walmart recently and only two lanes were open. There were at least eight customers in each line, and even the self checkout lanes were full. There are more than 20 lanes, so it’s utterly ridiculous that only two were open.

I left my cart, full of groceries, and informed the staff they would have to put them away because I could not be checked out in a timely manner.

I spent nothing, and if I see the same conditions in the future, I will stop spending my hard-earned money in Walmart all together.

If this were the first time I encountered a situation like this, I may not be so upset. However, it has been a consistently worsening problem.

I work 52 hours, six days a week. If I take 30-60 minutes to shop, I expect to be able to check out in a timely manner.

The employees are overworked and have to listen to people like me complain about things they have no control over. It is very inconsiderate on Walmart’s part, to their employees and their customers.

If you think Kroger is any better, you’re very much mistaken. I used to work there. They would barely keep one or two cashiers on staff in the early morning and evening hours. They want customers to use the self checkout lanes. So, they make it very inconvenient not to do so.

By my calculations, four self checkout lanes for three shifts per day at Walmart, and four lanes per day, at least two shifts at Kroger costs Danville at least 20 jobs, and it costs us all our time either from waiting in line or trying to figure out self checkout procedures.

Please speak up to these stores and let them know if you are not happy with your shopping experiences. As long as everyone passively accepts the way they treat customers and employees, they will continue this trend.

I am fed up with shopping in Danville.
