Shaker Village appoints new board members

HARRODSBURG — Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is pleased to announce the newest members of its board of trustees. The board appointed Anne Miller Arensberg, Harriet Dupree Bradley and Lois Mateus at its Nov. 17 meeting.

“These new members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in historic preservation, marketing and customer service, all important areas for our future,” said Chairman Elizabeth Kennan Burns. “We are so pleased that they have agreed to join us.”Anne Miller Arensberg has served as both a private consultant and director of public relations and development for not-for-profit organizations in Louisville and on a national basis.

She is currently a development and public relations consultant with Kentucky Natural Lands Trust and is on the Board of Advisors for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She has served on numerous boards including Preservation, Louisville, Bingham Child Guidance Center, the Brennan House, Preservation Alliance, and the Alliance of the J.B. Speed Art Museum.

Arensberg lives in Louisville.Harriet Dupree Bradley, a Lexington native, has owned and operated Dupree Catering and Events for over 25 years. She received a diploma from Le Cordon Bleu Cooking School in London, England, and returned to Lexington to continue work in the culinary arts. She holds a B.A. in fine arts from The University of the South and professional memberships in the International Catering Association, Southern Foodways Alliance, and Local First, Lexington.

Lois Mateus retired from Brown-Forman, where she was senior vice president, a member of the executive committee and responsible for the restoration of many of the company’s historic properties, including the Woodford Reserve Distillery. She also served in the economic development aspect of state government. Mateus lives in Harrodsburg and is a columnist for the Harrodsburg Herald newspaper. 

In addition to appointing new members, the board of trustees also elected new officers. Liz Kennan Burns of Danville succeeded Jim Kenan as chairman. The board honored Kenan with the passing of a special resolution for his distinguished service since 2005. He will transition to the chairman of the board emeritus.

Watts Humphrey was named vice president. Richard Stephenson remains as Secretary, and Edward Barr will continue to serve as treasurer.Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, inhabited by the Shakers until 1910, is a nonprofit national historic landmark whose mission is to preserve 34 original buildings and 3,000 acres of countryside.

In 2011, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill celebrates its first 50 years of preserving history and hospitality.
