PERRYVILLE — Vendors, a silent auction to benefit the Main Street Program and story time with Mrs. Claus all are part of the activities for the holiday event here, “A Perryville Christmas — Come Home for the Holidays.”
The silent auction will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Perryville Furniture Outlet Warehouse.
A number of authors will be on hand to read from and sign their books. They include:¿Ann Gabhart, whose latest offering is called “The Blessed”; David Toczko from Lone Dakota Photography; Abigail Keam, who wrote “Death by Honeybee” and who won the Gold Medal award from Readers Favorite; Karen VanderMarliere-McCrackenwhoser latest book is, “Running on E”; and Rose McCauley, who wrote “Nick’s Christmas Carol,” which is featured in the book “Christmas Belles of Georgia.”
“The authors have also agreed to do a book chapter reading, and a question and answer session,” said Kayla Alcorn of Main Street Perryville. “We will be hosting these authors in the Karricks Park house, and will have a quilt show hosted in the home that day, as well.”
Vendors during the event include: Talotam Hollow, inexpensive handcrafted brooms and other items; 2 Acres Shy, Kentucky Proud certified and specializing in natural herbal soaps, salves, and other natural items; Flutters and Mane, specializing in horse and animal art, jewelry, and steampunk jewelry; Old Chimers, primitive decor and other handcrafted items; 31 Gifts, personalized bags, purses and other items; LeMonds Jewelry, handmade jewelry; The Red Tulipe Shop, handcrafted items; Pampered Chef, cookware, cookbooks and other items; Doodads, handcrafted jewelry, art and home decor; Betty Norvell Crafts, handmade dolls; Mr. Taylor's Honey; and The Perryville Lion's Club.
Passport to the North Pole for families is another offering. Families can visit select vendors, getting passports punched along the way. Guided North Pole tours start every hour, on the hour, beginning at the community center. Passport to the North Pole also will feature a coloring contest, craft station and pictures with Santa Claus.
Merchants participating in Passport to the North Pole are: Candy Cane Express and Story Time with Mrs. Claus, Battlefield Marathon; Jingle Bell Way, Faulconer Mechanical; Jolly Elf Workshop, Perryville Outlet Furniture; Reindeer Roundup, Helm & Reynolds; Stocking Stuffer Station, Perryville City Hall; Frosty Winter Wonderland, Mister Misers; A Child is Born, Chaplains Hill Mall; Christmas Tree Forest, Magnolia Cottage; Santa’s Bake Shoppe (located at the Community Center), The Bread Box & Catering; Christmas Quilt Show, and Karrick Parks House.
The Danville Dulcimers Group will perform from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Karrick Parks House
The Perryville Ministerial Association will sponsor the Christmas Pilgrimage, a longtime holiday activity in the town. Different parts of the Christmas story will be offered at different Perryville churches. "They have graciously moved the date of the pilgrimage to coincide with our event," Alcorn noted.
The lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place after the Christmas Pilgrimage, about 8 p.m. at city hall.
Sponsors for the event are Perryville Lion's Club; Wilder Funeral Home; Doss & Horky; anonymous; and Stuart Powell, who also will be the grand marshal for the parade. The parade will be at noon.
Prizes will be given to the best decorated home and business.
