Mink to help DJ's celebrate anniversary

January 06, 2012|By Katie Perkowski

Known for some of the best steaks in town, DJ’s Bar and Grill will celebrate its one-year anniversary at its current location on the Bypass this weekend.

Donna Crim, owner of DJ’s with her husband Jim, said the actual one-year anniversary date falls on Friday, but the live music celebration will be Saturday. Lauren Mink, popular local singer, will perform with guitarist Dale Adams following the University of Kentucky basketball game.

“It’s been really good. We have a lot of good feedback,” Crim said of the first year the business has been at the new location.

Before moving to the Bypass, the Crims operated a restaurant at Southwind Golf Course for nine years, and Crim said a lot of the restaurant’s customers from that location followed the business to the Bypass. She said the restaurant has also gained new customers since moving.

Mink said she has long been a fan of DJ’s and is excited to be singing at the anniversary celebration.

“I have been a huge fan of DJ’s, even when Donna and Jimmy were located at Southwind, I went up there to grab my petite filet, home fries and Ale-8 at least once a week,” she said. “Now that they are in town, I frequent the restaurant more often. When Donna asked me to play for the one-year anniversary, I responded with a quick ‘Yes!’”

For Mink, DJ’s is a place she goes to see people she knows.

“It’s kind of the gathering place for people in Winchester. You can’t go in there without seeing someone you know,” she said. “Many people love going in there to grab Donna’s award-winning beer cheese. She has won the Best Beer Cheese two years at the Beer Cheese Festival. She always has a refrigerator full of her beer cheese.”

Mink said that for people who have never been to DJ’s, they are missing out on the best steak in town.

“They need to know to grab the home fries, because they are homemade goodness,” she said.

Mink said Saturday is expected to be a great time with friends, and she hopes everyone who has dined there in the last year shows up to show appreciation.

Crim said there will be half-priced appetizers and happy hour during the UK game from 4 to 6 p.m., and Mink and Adams will perform from 8 to 11 p.m.

DJ’s is located at 836 Bypass Road.
