Family has trusted Charleston for years

January 10, 2012

Dear Editor,

We would like to respond to the article regarding Charleston Health Center. We hope you realize the damage imposed on so many families (approximately 160 employees, 128 families of those in their care, as well as the family of the owners) by the negative reporting by your paper.

Also, it will impact the community if they close the establishment, since payroll taxes are paid on more than $300,000.

We have entrusted Charleston to care for several of our loved ones. In all our visits over the years, we never once heard an employee be anything but kind, even though they had no idea we were within hearing distance.

The Sparks family has taken care of our loved ones for more than 40 years, and it is sad to think they may pull out at this stage. They called the police, had the employee arrested and ushered off the property, and the authorities told them they would take care of everything — they did everything but call Frankfort. This is the reason for the outrageous fine and for the media reports.

No one was injured in any way, but this may result in Charleston, with a four-star rating, to have people question their service. We only hope they are still there if we need the type of service they give.
