Parks and rec board hires new director

January 10, 2012|By Rachel Parsons

A new director has been selected for the Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation Department, the parks board announced Monday night.

Winchester resident Jeff Lewis will replace Geri Remley, who left the position in December after two years to lead the parks and recreation department in Scott County.

Board chairman Charlie Eury said Lewis was selected because of his strong military career, and the work he did leading a juvenile detention center in Jackson.

“That’s really what stood out in his application and doing the references. They all confirmed what an outstanding job he did there (at the juvenile detention facility),” Eury said.

Board members hope Lewis will be able to build on the momentum created by Remley, Eury said, with an emphasis on community programming.

“The important thing was continuity, and to bring someone in pretty quickly, and kind of keep the ball rolling,” Eury said.

Lewis will officially begin Wednesday, Jan. 18.

The next regular parks board meeting will be Monday, Feb. 13.
