Icy conditions to blame in morning accident in northern Jessamine County

An icy road is thought to be the cause of an accident that occurred Friday morning on Clubhouse Drive in the Equestrian Woods subdivision in northern Jessamine County, near U.S. 68.

The driver of a 2007 Kia Rio lost control of her car and plowed through a wood-plank fence, striking a house at 101 Clubhouse Drive around 10:30 a.m., Jessamine County sheriff’s deputy Larry Oliver said.

“It looks like the lady was driving east on Springcrest Drive, and she attempted to make a left onto Clubhouse Drive,” Oliver said. “She lost control, traveled through the fence and slid into the house, striking the porch and column.”

Oliver said the driver was transported by Jessamine County EMS to a Lexington hospital with minor injuries.
“She does appear to have an injury to her left knee,” he said. “She was transported with non-life-threatening injuries to Central Baptist Hospital.”

The Jessamine County Fire District was called out to assess the damage to the house, but chief Mike Rupard said other than exterior damage, the house seemed to be in good shape.

“It appears just some cosmetic damage on this post,” Rupard said. “Structurally, it looks like it’s still sound. We’re just straightening it back up to take a little pressure off of it.”
