BCTC spring class enrollment deadline

Anyone interested in applying for Spring II classes at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College Winchester campus have until Feb. 1 to register. Students who applied to take spring classes and have not yet enrolled still have time to sign up for Spring II classes which begin March 7.

BCTC to host finance, relationship workshop

The Kentucky River Foothills is presenting a workshop, “Financial Peace and Relationship Peace: Foundational Skills,” at the Winchester-Clark County Bluegrass Community and Technical College campus, 2020 Rolling Hills Lane.

The six-week workshop will be in room 114 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 2 through March 8.

The classes will cover topics including budgeting, the dangers of debt, relating with money, communication skills, handling money together and the importance of fun.

The class is for all married couples, engaged couples, and single men and women who want to learn to succeed with money and people. It is free to Clark, Estill, Madison and Powell county residents. To register, call Amy at 624-2046 ext. 379 or email arobertson@foothillscap.org.

Conkwright SBDM to meet today

The Conkwright Middle School-based Decision-making Council will meet today at 4 p.m. in the school library.

Free tax prep available in February

Tax preparation, counseling, and electronic filing will be available Mondays and Tuesdays from Feb. 1 to April 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Annex of Central Baptist Church, 101 W. Lexington Ave.

This service is free and is offered to all taxpayers for personal returns through the AARP Tax-Aide Foundation Program. Although the focus is on low to moderate income clients with emphasis on 60 years of age and older, there is no age or income limitation and you do not have to be a member of AARP.
People using this service should bring last year’s tax return as well as all documents showing income for 2011. Proof of taxes paid and contributions made are required for those itemizing deductions.

The tax counselors are trained through a program sponsored by AARP and the Internal Revenue Service.

Democratic Woman’s Club meeting

The Democratic Woman’s Club will meet at Gaunce’s Deli Monday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Brenda Sipes from  Clark County Preschool will be the guest speaker.

State Adopt-A-Highway poster contest

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is holding the Adopt-A-Highway Make it Yours Art Contest to increase environmental awareness among children, and to educate them about the effects of litter and change their attitudes about littering.

Children between ages 6 and 17 (as of Sept. 29, 2012) are eligible to enter, and poster entries will be judged in four classes. The poster should be no larger than 11.75 x 16.5 inches. Entries must be postmarked by Sept. 30.
