Strode running for new term

City Commissioner Kitty Strode, 67, has filed for re-election in November.

Strode said she is seeking a second term because she has learned a lot in her first year as a commissioner, and wants to continue the plans and project for the coming year.

“We have a community spirit that is alive and well,” she said. “I want to see city and county government relations continue to prosper for the best interest of our citizens. This includes maintaining its small-town values while creating city jobs, and promising the best quality of life possible.”

Strode, of Windridge Drive, grew up in Lexington and has lived in Clark County for 37 years. She is a 1962 graduate of Henry Clay High School. She has worked at Keeneland and Churchill Downs for 30 years as a parimutuel clerk. She attends First Christian Church.

She was elected to the Winchester Board of Commissioners in November 2010.

Strode is the chairwoman of the Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival, vice chair of the Winchester/Clark County Tourism Commission, member of the Winchester First Board, member of the Bluegrass Heritage Museum Board, chairwoman of Downtown Beautification, member of the Beer Cheese Festival Committee and a member of the Winchester/Clark County Chamber of Commerce.

She has a son, Brad, 50, a daughter Shelby, 34, and a granddaughter, Katherine, 3. She has another granddaughter on the way.
