Local students graduate from EKU

Eastern Kentucky University recognized 884 graduates at the conclusion of the fall 2011 semester, including 17 from Jessamine County.

Nicholasville residents graduating were Kristian Ashley Banta, who earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education teaching; Rebecca Jean Buzo, who earned a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science; Roxanne Renea East, who earned an associate degree in nursing; Glenna Sue Gramig, who earned an associate degree in nursing; Tiffanie Lynn Gutierrez, who earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation and park administration; Kevin Thomas Ibershoff, who earned a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science; Jordan Elizabeth Layne, who earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing; Kimberly Ruth Little, who earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing; Joseph Neal Lowery, who earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism; Ashley Reynolds, who earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and graduated cum laude; Donna J. Williams, who earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies in arts and sciences; Erik Lockhart Wilson, who earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and graduated cum laude; and Maria Teresa Zarate, who earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies in arts and sciences and graduated magna cum laude.

Wilmore residents graduating were Tiffany Marie Balk, who earned a bachelor’s degree in special-education teaching; Scott Howard Paul Evely, who earned a bachelor’s degree in homeland security; Julie M. Johnson, who earned a master’s degree in library science; and Kimberlee G. Zabilka, who earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry.

The new degree holders join more than 125,000 Eastern alumni in Kentucky and across the United States.

EKU is a comprehensive university serving more than 16,000 students on its Richmond campus, at its educational centers in Corbin, Danville, Manchester, Somerset and Lancaster, and throughout Kentucky.

Jessamine residents on EKU president’s list

Eastern Kentucky University has announced that 1,164 students earned president’s-list honors for the fall 2011 semester, including 18 from Nicholasville.

Local students on the list were Kaila Renee Andrlik, a senior majoring in communication disorders; Kamyla Denae Andrlik, a senior majoring in Spanish; Elycia Nicol Boyce, a senior majoring in elementary-education teaching; Rebecca Jean Buzo, a senior majoring in clinical laboratory science; Julie Lynn Gilpin, a junior majoring in special-education teaching; Jason Scott Hays, a senior majoring in computer science; Elisha Ann Lester, a senior majoring in elementary-education teaching; Angela Faith Lowe, a senior majoring in pre-nursing; Mara Lynn Megee, a senior majoring in social work; Rachel D. Mitchell, a junior majoring in elementary-education teaching; Kathryn Elise Neff, a junior majoring in elementary-education teaching; Jonathan Wesley Overbay, a sophomore majoring in chemistry pre-pharmacy; Haley Erin Perdue, a senior majoring in clinical laboratory science; Lorraine Morgan Powell, a senior majoring in occupational therapy; Brittany Alexandria Quinn, a sophomore majoring in biology pre-veterinary science; Maggie Anne Strong, a senior majoring in middle-grade education; Rachel Leila Urs, a senior majoring in elementary-education teaching; and Erin Paige Woloschek, a junior majoring in French.

The president’s list was established by the university to recognize outstanding academic achievement. It is bestowed upon full-time undergraduate students who attain a perfect 4.0 grade point average for a semester.

Jessamine residents on EKU dean’s list

Eastern Kentucky University has announced that 2,726 students earned dean’s-list honors for the fall 2011 semester, including 39 from Nicholasville and three from Wilmore.
