Reports of an Elvis sighting in downtown Danville were confirmed early Tuesday afternoon.
It sure looked like Elvis, singing as he worked the registers at the Dollar General Store at 135 E. Main St., but it was actually Dennis Preston who was impersonating The King.
Preston, who retired after 30 years as the Boyle County High School band director, was in character not only to bring a little “Elvis” style romance to the store for Valentines Day, but also to stir interest in a project he and store manager Mike Totman are considering.
“We want to hold a concert outdoors here, maybe this summer, to raise money for St. Jude,” Preston said.
Totman said he plans to petition Dollar General’s corporate offices for permission to hold the fundraiser.
“Dollar General is a big supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” Totman said. “They raised about a half million more than their million dollar goal last year for them.”
