The trial date for a former jail captain charged with forgery and theft of nearly $7,000 has been set for 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 16.
In December, a grand jury indicted Brian Shearer on 20 counts of theft by unlawful taking with a value less than $500 and four counts of theft by unlawful taking with a value more than $500 from the detention center.
The jury also indicted him on 15 counts of second-degree forgery.
During the course of his various jobs at the jail, Shearer allegedly stole money and committed the forgery offenses by forging information on notice of jail credit forms that were required to be filed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Administrative Office of the Court.
According to documents filed in court Dec. 9, the alleged incidents happened between July 20 and Nov. 25.
Authorities grew suspicious in November after being tipped off and began an internal investigation, county jailer Jon Sallee said. He would not specify the account(s) from where the money was taken.
