PLEASANT HILL — A number of food events are on tap at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.

“Maple Syrup Pancake Breakfasts” are set for 7:30-10 a.m. March 3 and 10. The buffet breakfasts will include buttermilk pancakes and fried cornmeal mush with hot maple syrup and butter; bacon; sausage; scrambled eggs; cinnamon- and bourbon-smothered apples; fried potatoes; juice; and coffee.

After breakfast, attendees can see how the sap collected from the maple trees at Shaker Village is cooked down to make freshly-tapped syrup. In late February, buckets are hung to collect the sap. Then, it is cooked in an evaporator until it turns to syrup.

Cost for the Maple Syrup Pancake Breakfast, which will be held in the Trustees’ Office Dining Room, is $10.95. Reservations are recommended; call (800) 734-5611, ext. 360.
