The Mercer County girls won two of three close doubles matches to pull out a 5-4 victory over Casey County on Monday at Harrodsburg.
Christy Ingram and Erin Pigman eked out a 9-7 win over Casey’s Haley Owens and Allie Tinsley at No. 1 doubles, and Mary Baxter and Samantha Green defeated Sara Coffman and Chelsey Lynn 8-6 in the No. 2 match to put Mercer (2-0) over the top.
Tinsley lost a three-hour singles match to Mercer’s Catheryne Claunch, battling leg cramps and blisters on her feet before losing in three sets.
Tylyn Leigh won the No. 1 singles match for Casey (0-1) in straight sets, defeating Mercer’s Caitlin Baer.

Danville 5, Washington County 0 — At Springfield, Danville swept Washington in its season opener with four new players on its seven-man roster.
