Sarah Nolan has made her way up the rungs for the Boyle County tennis team. Now the Rebels junior is ready to show she is ready for competition.
Nolan is playing at No. 2 singles for Boyle this season, behind doubles partner Anna¿Duncan, and has been pleased with how the season has started.
“This is definitely an important year for me where I”m playing one of the higher seeds,” said Nolan, who earned an 8-4 win over Danville’s Mey Mey Kong and teamed with Duncan four doubles win Tuesday in the Rebels’ 5-4 win at Danville.
So far this season, Nolan is 2-2 in singles play, with one of those wins coming at No.1 singles, and she and Duncan are 3-1 in doubles.
“I’ve liked that Ive gotten to play number two and number one a little bit,”Ã?¿she said. “And I get to play doubles with Anna (Duncan).”
Nolan said going from the lower singles spots to the top two has been challenging.
“It’s a change, it’s quite a big change I like it a lot, I’m adjusting OK,” she said. “It definitely helps to get a big game won.”
Nolan, who does not play in any leagues in the offseason, said she worked a lot on her net play and serving on her own to prepare for this year.
“I really would like to see my serving improve,” she said.
Nolan and Duncan are Boyle’s top duo, and Nolan said she’s not sure if she will stick with singles when the regional meet rolls around, or if she will play doubles with Duncan.
“Either one would be OK for me,” said Nolan, who added that she and Duncan have a good chemistry brewing in their first season as partners.
“It’s been going real good. I like it a lot and we’re playing well together,” she said. “It took a few matches, but we’ve gotten it down better than we were earlier in the season.”

Danville led 4-2 after singles play, but Boyle rallied to sweep all three doubles matches to pull out the victory.
After Nolan and Duncan won their doubles match over Hannah and Meredith Frankel, Nikol Pluess and Victoria Horseman won at No. 2 doubles and Reva Toadvine and Hannah Green won at No. 3 doubles to clinch the match.
Danville had singles wins from Jodi Gay, Hannah Frankel, Karrina Angel and Grace Caudill.
Pluess had the other singles match win for the Rebels, who improved to 3-2 on the year.
The Danville and Boyle boys match scheduled for Tuesday will now be played today at Boyle.
