The Clark County Detention Center is expecting a $1.06 million shortfall in the coming fiscal year.
Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham presented the jail’s budget to commissioners during Wednesday’s Fiscal Court meeting.
The county would have to make up the difference from its general fund, Branham said. The jail’s proposed budget will be included with the overall Fiscal Court budget which, according to state law, must be presented to the Fiscal Court by May 1, he said. The Fiscal Court must adopt a budget on second reading by July 1.
“We have reduced expected expenses next year by about $64,000,” Branham said. “Unfortunately, revenue expectations are reduced by a little over $100,000, so that’s going to increase the amount that we’ll need to put in from the general fund.”
Expected expenses are $1,736,960, and expected revenues are $674,500, according to the proposed budget.
“Not only are we going to have to find the money, but the citizens of Clark County are going to have to find the money,” Branham said.
