Student art exposition planned

STANFORD — Stanford Elementary School will have a student art exposition from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the school. Every student will have artwork on display.

Kindergarten registration set

STANFORD — Stanford Elementary School will have kindergarten registration from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 13. You must bring the following to registration: certified copy of the child’s birth certificate; child’s social security number; child’s immunization certificate; proof of address and your child for kindergarten screenings.

Garrard plans Earth Day festival

LANCASTER — An Earth Day Festival will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Garrard County Fairgrounds. Admission is free. The event will be held rain or shine and includes live entertainment, earth-friendly shopping including garden, vegetable, herb and bedding plants, food vendors, giveaways and a recycled Derby hat fashion show.

Recyclables are accepted, including paper, cans, batteries and most electronics except televisions. A giant yard sale also will be part of the event, and people can participate by calling (859) 339-4599 and paying a $5 fee.

Wellness center offers boot camp 

McDowell Wellness Center is offering two sessions of its popular boot camp to help individuals get in shape while losing weight.

Both sessions of the six-week boot camp will begin April 23. An early-morning session begins at 5:20 a.m. and meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday while an evening session begins at 7:30 p.m. and meets each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

The basic training class is comprised of exercises used to train military personnel. They include push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, crunches, up-downs and running. 

The cost is $40 for center members and $70 for non-members. Class size is limited, so advance sign-up is recommended. To sign up or for more information, call (859) 936-9355 or stop by the member services desk.

Employee reunion planned

Rexnord/Mathews/FKI¿Logistex and Intelligrated employees will have a reunion from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at Mallard’s restaurant, 1001 Ben Ali Drive. Spouses and dates are welcome to attend. For more information, call Carmen Hampton at (859) 319-3143.

Casey County Board of Education — 7 p.m. Monday at the central office, 1922 N. U.S. 127.¿Agenda items include discussion of a shortened school day and No Child Left Behind.

Danville Board of Education — 6 p.m. Monday at Jennie Rogers Elementary School.¿Agenda items include a finance report and discussion of 2012-13 classified and certified personnel allocations.

Danville City Commission — 5:30 p.m. Monday at city hall. Agenda items include discussion regarding the Danville¿Citizens Committee and an executive session to discuss candidates for the vacant city manager position.

Garrard County Board of Education — 9 a.m. Monday at the central office. The special meeting is to approve a topsoil bid for the Garrard County High School boys and girls practice field.

Mercer County Board of Education — 5:30 p.m. Monday at Harrodsburg Area Technology Center conference room for an executive session to interview finalists for the vacant superintendent position.
