Prep Baseball: Mercer County beat Marion 15-1

April 17, 2012

Mercer County pounded out 19 hits and routed visiting Marion¿County 15-1 in five innings Saturday.
Tyler Devine and Luke Bosse each had two hits for the Titans (12-5), who scored three times in the first five in the second, two in the third and five more in the fourth.
“It was just a day, we saw the baseball and found the barrel of the bat all four innings,”¿Mercer coach Jeremy Shope said.
“One through nine, we just hit the baseball.”
Mercer had seven hits in the second and fourth innings.
Jackson Stoeckinger worked the first four innings to pick up the win.
“It was good to see Jackson back out, he missed three weeks with ankle injury and he came back out for his first start and pitched well,”¿Shope said.
Lexington Christian 6, Danville 5 — At Lexington, the No. 10 Admirals scored four runs in the top of the seventh innings, but it was not enough in a loss at Lexington Christian Academy.
Andrew Lasure was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Dowell Harmon had a triple and drove in a run, Mason Stamm had an RBI single in the seventh inning and Jack Graham had a pinch-hit single in the seventh for Danville (13-2).
Chris Miller worked the first 1 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits with four walks.
“We got caught a little shorthanded on our pitching today. Chris did a nice job, he just had control issues. And our reserves did a good job,”¿Danville coach Paul Morse said.
Nick Serey worked five innings of relief, giving up three runs and striking out three and Harmon worked the final 2/3 of an inning.
Boyle County 7, DeSales 2 — At Elizabethtown, Jacob¿Pike, Josiah Robbins and Brett Jones each had two hits for Boyle (8-9) in a win over Desales in the Elizabethtown Spring Break Classic.

Friday’s Games
Danville 5, Marion County 4 — At Lebanon, Tyler Beldon moved to 5-0 on the season, tossing 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as the Admirals edge host Marion.

Tanner Goodman went the first 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Serey worked 2/3 of an inning in relief of Goodman, allowing one unearned run on one hit.
“Tanner did a good job except for the walks. He threw a lot of strikes, and the two innings they scored was where he let guys on with walks, and that’s what hurt him,”¿Morse said. “And Tyler, he just did what he’s done all year.”
Rob Caudill was 2-for-3 with three runs and three stolen bases, Lasure had an RBI single in the fifth inning, Harmon was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Jay Hunn stole two bases.
