Prep Roundup: Clark boys tennis team defeats Paris

The George Rogers Clark boys tennis team defeated Paris 8-1 Monday at the Winchester Country Club.
In singles, Christian Colvard defeated Jorge Jackson 6-1, Troy True beat Scott Ramsey 6-1, Chris Bourque defeated Toribio Powell 6-1, Wes Conkwright beat Justin Moore 6-1 and Preston Blair won 6-1. Ian Rowe lost to William Desoroux 7-6 (4) and 6-1.
In doubles action, the tandem of John Rupard and Christian Colvard defeated Ethan Gibson and Taylor Douglas 6-0, while True and Brooks Harrison beat Frankie Bradford and Michael Regard 6-1.
Mark Thomas and Irvin Juarez defeated the duo of Nick Leer and Garrett West 6-0 to complete the sweep in doubles.

Cross Country

The George Rogers Clark track team competed in two meets last weekend.
The pole vaulting and jump squads competed in the 49th Annual Daviess County Invitational in Owensboro.
The meet was called because of rain, but not before Clark triple jumper Sandra Skinner placed second with a jump of 29 feet. Jordan Barnett ran the 1600-meters in a time of 6:03. Clark pole vaulters Nate Dent and Michelle Henry were unable to compete in the vault event because of the weather conditions.
Clark then competed at Somerset at the 36th annual Lake Cumberland Classic. In final team standings, the girls team placed 10th, while the boys team placed third.
Clark sprinter Pokey Harris placed first in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Harris ran a 22.26 in the 200-meters, which broke the old Lake Cumberland Meet record time of 22.29 set in 1992 by Chris Jackson of Woodford County. Jackson went on to win the KHSAA state championship in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. Harris' effort also set a new school record time in the 200-meters. Teammate Mark Davis broke the record last year with a run of 22.64.
Clay Dixon placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.70 over regional rival Austin Hyden of Pulaski County. The boys 4x200 relay team placed first with a new school record time of 1:34.12. Relay members were Harris, Dixon, Andrew Ping and Andrew Walker. The previous Clark school record was set six years ago by Henry Hudson, Ron Morton, Travis Conner and Michael Clark.
The boys 4x400 relay team (Dixon, Walker, Ping and Jacob Koch) placed first with a time of 3:37.86, defeating  Pulaski County, which ran the relay 3:38.56. Alex White placed second in the 3200-meter run in a personal record time of 10:02.50. White also ran a personal record time of 4:39.09 in the 1600-meter run.
In the girls competition, Cora Kerber set a new school record in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:27.40.
The prior school record was set by Kate Evans in 2011 with a time of 2:28.68.
Lydia Gapp also competed in the 800-meters in a time of 2:49.20. Michelle Henry placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 6 feet 6 inches.
