Danville became the first 12th Region team to record more than one win in the All “A” Classic, going 2-1 on Saturday at Owensboro to advance to today’s championship rounds.
The Admirals (14-9), making their second straight appearance in the statewide small-school tournament, defeated Jenkins and Nicholas County at Jack Fisher Park to advance to an 8:30 a.m. game today against Green County.
Danville was playing without infielder Grace Fons, who was critically injured in an auto accident Wednesday.
Danville 11, Jenkins 3 — Kasey Young had a double, a home run and five RBIs as the Admirals opened pool play with a win over Jenkins (20-7).
Taylor Estes homered as part of a three-hit game and drove in two runs, and Jordyn Perry doubled.
Gallatin County 12, Danville 2, 5 innings — Gallatin (15-4) scored in every inning to defeat Danville, which managed only three hits.
Two of those were singles by Young, and Perry had a double and an RBI.
Danville 12, Nicholas County 11, 8 innings — Breanna Turpin’s bases-loaded single with one out in the eighth inning produced the go-ahead run in Danville’s extra-inning win over Nicholas (19-3).
Turpin had three singles and scored twice for the Admirals. Young singled, doubled, homered and scored three runs, Kayla Breitenbach had two hits, reached base five times, scored four runs and drove in two, Perry drove in three runs and Estes had two hits.
