The George Rogers Clark baseball team fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 13-2 loss in five innings Tuesday at Woodford County.
The Cardinals, who defeated rival Montgomery County 10-4 Monday at Cardinal Field, managed 10 hits off Woodford County pitcher J.T. Oreel, but tallied just two runs after the Yellowjackets crossed the plate with seven runs in the first two innings, including a four-run outburst in the second inning.
Pokey Harris paced Clark’s offense with a pair of singles, while Logan McQuerry, Brent Stoneking, Hunter Osborne, Wes Lawwill, Scotty Turner, Luke Sharrock, Taylor Howard and Robert Hatler each finished with hits.
McQuerry laced a double, while Turner’s lone hit produced an RBI for the Cards, who scored one run in the second inning and tacked on another in the third frame. Orborne, who connected on a solo home run in the win over the Indians earlier this week, also had a double.
Clark (12-11) used three pitchers in the contest. Starter Trevor Back went the first two innings, followed by Aaron Parrish and Jordan Williams.
Back gave up seven runs and five hits and collected one strikeout. Parrish also fanned one batter in his two innings on the mound.
Woodford (17-4) defeated the Cards 4-3 on March 27 in Winchester.
Clark will take on rival Bourbon County at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a clutch 40th District encounter at Cardinal Field.
