Chandler announces Jessamine winners in art competition

U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler announced the Jessamine County winners in the 2012 Congressional Art Competition on Thursday, May 3, at West Jessamine High School.

West senior Angel Fox won the Jessamine County award for her work, “Starry Face.” West sophomore Catherine Graham won the 6th District award for painting for her piece, “The Rose.” Graham also won the district award for drawing as a freshman in the 2011 competition.

Both students being honored were presented with a certificate of special congressional recognition from Chandler.

Created in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition is an annual competition in which the artwork of high-school students is judged at the congressional-district level. The art from the overall winner of the competition will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
