Edward O. Guerrant has won the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award. A member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and the tennis team at Transylvania College, Lexington, the son of Dr. and Mrs. E.O. Guerrant, South Highland Street.

Bick’s Upholstering, Lexington Road, recently was awarded a state contract to furnish draperies for the hotel and cottages at Kentucky Lake State Park. The firm operated by Mr. and Mrs. L.Z. Bickett submitted the lowest bid of several upholstering firms from over the state and the eastern part of the United States. The local firm’s bid was $3,692.18.

The Southern Bell Telephone Company is installing equipment in its dial office building to enable users of its teletypewriter service to dial their own calls. Morris Futrell, manager here, said that dialed calls from Eastern Kentucky will be switched through the Winchester dial office on Lexington Avenue. Beginning June 3, all long distance calls from Paris, Millersburg, Clintonville, North Middletown, Shawhan and Little Rock will be switched through the Winchester office.
